Pertussis IgG
The Pertussis IgG blood test is a test used to determine whether an individual has been infected with the bacterium that causes pertussis (also known as whooping cough), and whether the person has developed immunity to the disease. Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can cause severe coughing, difficulty breathing, and vomiting. The test measures the levels of IgG antibodies in the blood that are specific to the pertussis bacterium. IgG antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to an infection and remain in the blood for a long time, providing long-term protection against the disease. A positive result on the Pertussis IgG blood test indicates that the person has been infected with pertussis in the past and has developed immunity to the disease. A negative result suggests that the person has not been infected with pertussis or has not developed immunity to the disease. It is important to note that a positive result on the Pertussis IgG blood test does not necessarily mean that the person is immune to pertussis. Some people may still be susceptible to the disease even if they have been previously infected and have developed IgG antibodies. The Pertussis IgG blood test is performed by taking a sample of blood from the person being tested, and the blood is then sent to a laboratory for analysis. The results of the test are usually available within a few days. Consultation with a healthcare provider is recommended to interpret the results of the Pertussis IgG blood test and determine the best course of action based on the individual's health status and vaccination history.
