Treponema Pallidum Haemagglutination (TPHA)
Test used to diagnose syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. During the TPHA test, a patient's blood is collected and mixed with particles that have been coated with T. pallidum antigens. If the patient's blood contains antibodies against T. pallidum, the antigens will clump together, indicating a positive test result. The TPHA test is one of several tests used to diagnose syphilis and is often used as a confirmatory test if other tests, such as the rapid plasma reagin (RPR) test, are positive. It is a highly sensitive and specific test and can detect antibodies to T. pallidum even in cases where the infection has been present for a long time. If you are concerned about syphilis or have been exposed to the infection, it's important to talk to your healthcare provider about getting tested. Syphilis is a treatable infection, and early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent serious complications.
There is an additional £20 phlebotomy fee for every donation.
