Overview of the Zonulin Test
The zonulin test is designed to measure the levels of zonulin—a protein responsible for regulating the permeability of the intestinal lining. This protein plays a crucial role in maintaining the gut barrier, determining what passes from the intestines into the bloodstream. Elevated zonulin levels may indicate increased intestinal permeability, often referred to as “leaky gut,” which is associated with a range of health concerns.

Why Zonulin Matters
Zonulin controls the tight junctions between intestinal cells, ensuring that only essential nutrients are absorbed while preventing harmful substances from entering the bloodstream. When zonulin levels rise, these junctions may loosen, compromising the gut barrier. This allows toxins, pathogens, and undigested food particles to enter circulation, potentially triggering immune responses, chronic inflammation, and various health conditions.
