About this profile

The Sexual Health Profile II – Male is a comprehensive screening test designed to detect a wide range of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV in men. This profile combines bacterial, parasitic, and viral testing to provide a complete assessment of male sexual health, supporting early diagnosis and effective management of infections that can impact overall wellbeing.

Indications for testing
This profile is recommended for men who:
– Are sexually active and require a complete STI and HIV screening.
– Have experienced symptoms such as genital irritation, discharge, pain, or discomfort.
– Have had unprotected sex or multiple sexual partners.
– Need a routine sexual health check-up or HIV screening.
– Have been in contact with a partner diagnosed with an STI or HIV infection.

What can be detected?
The Sexual Health Profile II – Male includes tests to identify bacterial, parasitic, and viral infections affecting the male reproductive system:

Chlamydia trachomatis (Urine): Detects Chlamydia trachomatis, a common bacterial infection that may cause burning during urination, discharge, or remain asymptomatic if left untreated.

Male Genital Swab Culture: Identifies a range of bacterial and fungal organisms causing genital infections, including:

Neisseria gonorrhoeae – The bacterium responsible for gonorrhea, a common STI causing discharge and discomfort.

Trichomonas vaginalis – A parasite that causes irritation and inflammation of the genital tract.

Candida spp. – A yeast responsible for fungal infections that may cause itching and soreness.

Staphylococcus aureus – A bacterium that can cause localized infections.

Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus, GBS) – Bacteria that may affect the genital and urinary tract.

HIV Antibodies + p24 Antigen: Detects both antibodies and the p24 antigen for early and accurate identification of HIV infection, enabling prompt treatment and management.

Fasting requirements
Fasting is not required for this test. However, it is advised to avoid urination for at least 1–2 hours before providing a urine sample for the Chlamydia trachomatis test.
