Apolipoprotein A1 (12h Fasting)
Apolipoprotein A1 (apoA1) is a protein that is primarily responsible for transporting cholesterol in the bloodstream. It is the main component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), also known as "good cholesterol." ApoA1 is synthesized in the liver and small intestine and is then secreted into the bloodstream, where it binds to cholesterol and other lipids. Low levels of apoA1 have been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, as HDL particles are thought to have protective effects against the development of atherosclerosis, or the buildup of plaque in the arteries. Conversely, high levels of apoA1 have been associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.
