About this test
Atypical Antibody Screening During Pregnancy
This test is performed during pregnancy to detect atypical red blood cell antibodies present in the mother’s blood. These antibodies may develop if the mother’s immune system recognises fetal red blood cells as foreign.
Purpose of the Test
The main goal of this screening is to identify antibodies that could lead to hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN). HDN occurs when maternal antibodies attack the baby's red blood cells, potentially causing anaemia, jaundice, or more severe complications after birth.
Private Antibody Screening in Slough and Surrounding Areas
Atypical antibody screening is available in Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead, and nearby Berkshire areas. Early detection allows for proper monitoring and intervention during pregnancy, ensuring the best outcomes for both mother and baby.
