About this profile

The Sexual Health Profile V – Male is an advanced diagnostic panel that provides a complete evaluation of male sexual health by screening for a broad range of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and viral diseases. This comprehensive profile uses a combination of swab, urine, and blood-based testing to ensure accurate detection and effective management of infections.

Indications for testing
This test is recommended for men who:
– Are sexually active and require a full STI and viral infection screen.
– Are experiencing symptoms such as genital pain, sores, irritation, or discharge.
– Have recently engaged in unprotected sexual activity or have multiple partners.
– Need regular sexual health monitoring as part of preventive healthcare.
– Have had possible exposure to individuals with STIs, HIV, Hepatitis B, or Hepatitis C.

What can be detected
The Sexual Health Profile V – Male combines multiple diagnostic methods to assess bacterial and viral infections with precision:

Bacterial Infections (Male Genital Swab Culture):
Identifies bacteria and fungi that may cause genital infections, including:
Neisseria gonorrhoeae – Responsible for gonorrhea, a common STI.
Trichomonas vaginalis – Parasite causing trichomoniasis.
Candida spp. – Yeast infection affecting the genital area.
Staphylococcus aureus – Bacterium linked to soft tissue infections.
Streptococcus agalactiae (GBS) – Bacterium that can affect men and cause reproductive tract infections.

Chlamydia trachomatis Antigen (Urine):
Detects Chlamydia trachomatis, a bacterial infection that can cause inflammation, discharge, and discomfort or remain asymptomatic if left untreated.

Syphilis Antibodies (Syphilis Ab):
Detects antibodies against Treponema pallidum, the bacterium that causes syphilis, which progresses through multiple stages if not treated.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Antibodies + p24 Antigen):
Screens for HIV infection by identifying both antibodies and the p24 antigen, allowing for early detection of both new and long-term infections.

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg):
Identifies active Hepatitis B infection, which can lead to liver inflammation and long-term complications.

Hepatitis C Antibodies (HCV Ab):
Detects antibodies to the Hepatitis C virus, indicating either a current or previous infection that could impact liver health.

Fasting requirements
No fasting is required for this test. However, patients should follow any specific guidance from their healthcare provider, such as avoiding urination for 1–2 hours before giving a urine sample for the Chlamydia test.
