Viral Screen II

Viral Screen II - (£153)

This screening panel is a comprehensive blood test designed to detect four major viral and bacterial infections: Hepatitis C (HCV), Hepatitis B (HBV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and Syphilis. These infections are commonly transmitted through sexual contact, contaminated blood, or direct exposure to bodily fluids. Early diagnosis plays a crucial role in effective treatment, prevention of complications, and protection of overall health.

Who is this panel for?
This test is recommended for:
Sexually active individuals: Especially those with multiple partners or inconsistent condom use.
High-risk groups: Including healthcare professionals, intravenous drug users, and those who have received blood transfusions before 1992.
Pregnant women: To prevent transmission of infections from mother to child.
Routine screening: For individuals seeking peace of mind before new relationships or as part of annual health check-ups.
Symptomatic individuals: Those experiencing signs such as fatigue, fever, jaundice, skin rashes, unexplained weight loss, or genital sores.

What can be detected?

Hepatitis C (HCV Antibodies):
Detects antibodies to the Hepatitis C virus, indicating past or active infection. Chronic Hepatitis C can lead to serious liver complications, including cirrhosis and liver cancer, but early detection allows for curative antiviral therapy.

Hepatitis B (HB Surface Antigen – HBsAg):
Identifies the presence of Hepatitis B surface antigen, confirming an active infection. Chronic Hepatitis B requires timely management to prevent liver failure or long-term complications.

HIV (HIV Antibodies + p24 Antigen):
Detects both HIV antibodies and the p24 antigen, allowing for early diagnosis of infection before antibodies fully develop. Early detection supports prompt treatment and prevents the progression to AIDS.

Syphilis (Syphilis Antibodies – Syphilis Ab):
Screens for antibodies to Treponema pallidum, the bacterium that causes syphilis. This test helps identify both past and present infections, ensuring early treatment to prevent severe complications.

Fasting requirements
No fasting is required for this test. Normal eating and drinking can continue before sample collection.
