Culture - Eye Swab

A culture eye swab refers to the process of collecting a sample of material from the eye to obtain cells or other material that may be used to diagnose an infection or other medical condition. The collected sample is then cultured in a laboratory, meaning it is placed in a special growth medium that promotes the growth of any microorganisms that may be present. The results of the culture can be used to identify the specific type of bacteria or fungus causing an infection, and help determine the most appropriate course of treatment. Eye swab cultures are typically used to diagnose infections such as conjunctivitis (pink eye) and blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids).
