What Are Islet Cell Antibodies (ICA)

Islet cell antibodies (ICA) are autoantibodies that attack the insulin-producing islet cells in the pancreas.

Association with Type 1 Diabetes

The presence of ICA in the bloodstream is linked to an increased risk of developing type 1 diabetes.

How the Test is Performed

ICA are detected through a blood test that measures the antibody levels. This test is commonly used for individuals at higher risk, including those with a family history of type 1 diabetes or existing autoimmune conditions.
