Islet Cell Antibodies
Islet cell antibodies (ICA) are autoantibodies that target the insulin-producing cells (islet cells) in the pancreas. The presence of these antibodies in the blood is associated with an increased risk of developing type 1 diabetes. Islet cell antibodies are typically detected using a blood test that measures the levels of these antibodies in the blood. The test is often performed in people who are at risk of developing type 1 diabetes, such as those with a family history of the disease or those who have already developed other autoimmune disorders.
