Comprehensive Testosterone Blood Test LIS Code: DTX-02
Comprehensive testosterone blood test measuring Testosterone, SHBG, Albumin, Oestradiol, LH, FSH, Prolactin, FBC, kidney and liver function before a specialist TRT consultation.
What's included in this profile
- An enzyme found mainly in the liver
- Raised levels can indicate liver inflammation or damage
- Commonly checked alongside AST to assess liver health
- The main protein made by the liver
- Helps maintain fluid balance in the blood
- Low levels can indicate liver or kidney problems, or poor nutrition
- An enzyme found in the liver, bone and bile ducts
- Raised levels can point to liver, bile duct or bone conditions
- Interpreted alongside other liver markers for context
- A waste product from normal muscle breakdown, filtered by the kidneys
- Raised levels can indicate reduced kidney function
- Used to calculate eGFR (estimated kidney filtration rate)
- The processed (conjugated) form of bilirubin
- Raised levels often point to a blockage in bile flow
- Interpreted together with total bilirubin
- The main form of oestrogen in women of reproductive age
- Used to assess ovarian function, fertility and menopause status
- Also present at lower levels in men
- A pituitary hormone that regulates egg/sperm production
- Used to assess fertility and menopause status in women
- Also checked in men to help assess sperm production
- Measures red cells, white cells and platelets
- A foundational test for overall health, anaemia and infection
- The 'Differential' breaks white cells down by specific type
- An enzyme sensitive to liver and bile duct problems
- Often raised with alcohol intake or bile flow issues
- Helps confirm whether a raised ALP is liverrelated
- A pituitary hormone that triggers ovulation in women
- Also plays a role in testosterone production in men
- Checked alongside FSH for fertility and hormonal assessment
- A key electrolyte important for heart and muscle function
- Abnormal levels can affect heart rhythm and need prompt attention
- Closely linked to kidney function
- A pituitary hormone best known for its role in breastfeeding
- Raised levels outside pregnancy can disrupt periods and fertility
- Checked when investigating irregular cycles or low libido
- A protein that binds testosterone and oestrogen in the blood
- Affects how much hormone is 'free' and active
- Needed to accurately interpret total testosterone results
- A key electrolyte that regulates fluid balance
- Abnormal levels can reflect kidney, hormonal or hydration issues
- Commonly checked as part of a routine metabolic panel
- The primary male sex hormone, also present in women
- Affects energy, muscle mass, libido and mood
- Low levels in men can cause fatigue and reduced sex drive
- The combined total of albumin and globulin in the blood
- Reflects overall nutritional and liver status
- Abnormal results prompt a closer look at albumin/globulin individually
- A waste product from protein breakdown, filtered by the kidneys
- Raised levels can indicate reduced kidney function or dehydration
- Interpreted alongside creatinine for a fuller picture
- An estimate of how well the kidneys are filtering blood
- Calculated from creatinine, age and sex
- The key measure used to stage kidney function
About this profile
The DTX-02 Comprehensive Testosterone & Hormone Blood Test is designed to provide a detailed assessment of testosterone levels, related hormones, blood health, kidney function and liver function before a consultation with a testosterone specialist.
This panel goes beyond a basic testosterone check by measuring the key hormones involved in testosterone production and regulation, alongside important baseline health markers.
It may be suitable for men experiencing symptoms associated with low testosterone, including reduced libido, low energy, erectile difficulties, reduced muscle strength, changes in mood or motivation, or reduced general wellbeing.
What does the DTX-02 test include?
Total Testosterone
Measures the total amount of testosterone circulating in the blood.
SHBG – Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin
Measures the protein that binds testosterone in the bloodstream and helps with the interpretation of testosterone levels.
Albumin
Measured alongside Total Testosterone and SHBG to support the calculation of estimated free testosterone.
Oestradiol
Provides information about oestrogen levels and overall hormone balance.
LH – Luteinising Hormone
Helps assess the signalling between the pituitary gland and the testes and can support investigation into the possible cause of low testosterone.
FSH – Follicle-Stimulating Hormone
Provides additional information about pituitary and testicular function.
Prolactin
Abnormal prolactin levels can affect testosterone production, libido and sexual function.
Full Blood Count (FBC)
Measures haemoglobin, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets to provide important information about general blood health.
Renal Function
The renal profile assesses important markers associated with kidney function and fluid and electrolyte balance, including:
Urea
Creatinine
eGFR
Sodium
Potassium
Liver Function Tests
The liver profile assesses important markers associated with liver and hepatobiliary health, including:
ALT
ALP
Bilirubin
GGT
Total Protein
Albumin
Who is this test suitable for?
The DTX-02 panel may be suitable for:
Men with symptoms of possible low testosterone
Patients requiring a more detailed hormone assessment
Patients preparing for a testosterone specialist consultation
Patients being assessed before possible testosterone replacement therapy (TRT)
Patients requiring baseline hormone and general health markers before treatment consideration
