Borrelia Burgdorferi IgM (Lyme Disease)

Lyme disease is caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi, a bacterial species of the spirochete class of the genus Borrelia. Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of Ixodes species ticks. Serology is the only standardised type of laboratory screening testing available to support the clinical diagnosis of Lyme borreliosis (Lyme disease). All are designed to detect immune responses to antigens of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto, particularly IgM and IgG. Serological tests do not become positive until an infected individual has had time to develop antibodies.
