Brucella IgG
The Brucella IgG blood test is a medical test that measures the level of IgG antibodies to Brucella bacteria in the blood. Brucella bacteria are a group of bacteria that can cause a disease called brucellosis, which can affect both humans and animals. The Brucella IgG blood test is used to diagnose brucellosis and to monitor the progress of treatment. It is typically ordered when a person has symptoms of brucellosis, such as fever, fatigue, joint pain, and muscle aches, or has been exposed to Brucella bacteria through contact with infected animals or animal products. When a person is infected with Brucella bacteria, their immune system produces IgG antibodies to fight the infection. The Brucella IgG blood test measures the level of these antibodies in the blood. A positive result on the Brucella IgG blood test indicates that a person has been exposed to Brucella bacteria at some point in their life and that their immune system has produced IgG antibodies in response. However, a positive result does not necessarily mean that a person has an active infection, as the antibodies can remain in the bloodstream for years after the infection has been cleared.
