Chromium

Chromium is a naturally occurring metal that is essential for human health in small amounts. It is important for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in the body, and is also involved in the regulation of blood sugar levels. However, exposure to high levels of chromium can be toxic to the body, particularly to the respiratory system. Inhalation of hexavalent chromium, a form of chromium commonly found in industrial settings, can lead to lung cancer, respiratory irritation, and other respiratory problems.
