Overview of Measles Virus (MeV)
Measles is one of the most highly contagious infectious diseases, caused by the measles virus (MeV), a single-stranded RNA virus from the Paramyxoviridae family. It spreads rapidly through airborne droplets and direct contact with respiratory secretions.

Although commonly associated with childhood, measles can affect individuals of all ages, particularly those who are unvaccinated or have compromised immune systems.

Symptoms and Transmission
Measles typically presents with a high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a widespread skin rash. The virus spreads easily through coughing, sneezing, or close contact in shared environments such as schools and public transport.

Use of Serologic Testing for Measles
Serologic blood tests are used to evaluate an individual's antibody response to the measles virus. These tests help determine whether a person has a current (acute) or previous (past) infection and assess their immunity status.
