Creatinine is a waste product that is produced by the muscles during normal metabolism and is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys and excreted in the urine. The urine creatinine test is often used to measure kidney function and to monitor various medical conditions related to kidney function, such as chronic kidney disease. Creatinine levels in the urine can also be used to estimate a person's glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is a measure of kidney function.
