Gliadin IgG

Gliadin IgG refers to the presence of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies against gliadin, a protein found in gluten, in the blood. IgG antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to an antigen, such as gliadin. In some individuals, the immune system may produce IgG antibodies against gliadin without having celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity. Gliadin IgG testing is not specific to celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and positive results may be seen in individuals with other conditions, such as infections or autoimmune disorders. Therefore, gliadin IgG testing is not recommended as a stand-alone test for diagnosing celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity. Gliadin IgG testing may be used as a supplement to other diagnostic tests for celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity. For example, gliadin IgG testing may be used in individuals who are already on a gluten-free diet or who have IgA deficiency, which can lead to false-negative results on other celiac disease tests that rely on IgA antibodies. Overall, gliadin IgG testing may be useful in certain clinical situations, but the results should be interpreted in the context of other diagnostic tests and clinical findings. A positive result does not necessarily mean that an individual has celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity.
