Insulin-Like Growth Factor (IGF-1)

Somatomedin-C, also known as insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), is a hormone that plays a critical role in growth and development in humans and other animals. It is produced primarily by the liver in response to the release of growth hormone (GH) from the pituitary gland. IGF-1 acts as a mediator of GH, promoting growth and differentiation of cells, particularly in bone, cartilage, and muscle. It also has important roles in glucose metabolism and the regulation of body composition.
