What Is Jo-1 Antibody?
Jo-1 antibody is an autoantibody that targets an enzyme known as histidyl-tRNA synthetase, also referred to as Jo-1. This enzyme plays a crucial role in protein synthesis, and the presence of Jo-1 antibodies indicates an autoimmune response against this enzyme.

Association with Polymyositis
Jo-1 antibodies are most commonly linked to polymyositis, a chronic autoimmune condition that causes inflammation and progressive weakness of the skeletal muscles. This condition often affects the muscles closest to the trunk, such as those in the hips, thighs, shoulders, and upper arms.

Link to Dermatomyositis
In some cases, Jo-1 antibodies are also found in individuals with dermatomyositis—another autoimmune disease that affects both the muscles and the skin. This condition may present with muscle weakness along with distinctive skin rashes.
