Immunoglobulin A (IgA)
Immunoglobulin A (IgA) is a type of antibody that plays an important role in the immune system's defense against infections. It is found mainly in mucous membranes, such as those lining the respiratory and digestive tracts, as well as in saliva, tears, and breast milk. IgA is the most abundant immunoglobulin in the body and plays a key role in preventing infections by binding to and neutralizing harmful pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. IgA antibodies can also prevent pathogens from adhering to the mucous membranes and prevent them from entering the body. IgA deficiency is a condition in which a person does not produce enough IgA antibodies, which can increase the risk of infections in the respiratory and digestive tracts. However, many people with IgA deficiency do not have any symptoms and may not be aware of the condition.
