The Sexual Health Profile III – Male is a comprehensive diagnostic test designed to evaluate male sexual health by detecting a wide range of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV. This profile includes advanced testing for bacterial, parasitic, and viral infections to ensure early detection and effective management of potential health concerns.
Indications for testing
The Sexual Health Profile III – Male is recommended for men who:
– Are sexually active and want a complete STI and HIV screening.
– Experience symptoms such as genital pain, discharge, sores, or irritation.
– Have engaged in unprotected sex or had multiple sexual partners.
– Need routine STI and HIV testing as part of preventive healthcare.
– Have been exposed to a partner diagnosed with an STI or HIV infection.
What can be detected?
This comprehensive profile includes key tests that help identify and assess multiple sexually transmitted infections:
Chlamydia trachomatis (Urine): Detects Chlamydia trachomatis, a bacterial infection that may cause painful urination, discharge, or infertility if left untreated.
Syphilis Antibodies (Syphilis Ab): Detects antibodies against Treponema pallidum, the bacterium responsible for syphilis, enabling diagnosis at both early and late stages of infection.
HIV Antibodies + p24 Antigen: Screens for both HIV antibodies and the p24 antigen, providing an accurate and early diagnosis of HIV infection.
Male Genital Swab Culture: Identifies bacterial and fungal pathogens that can affect sexual health, including:
Neisseria gonorrhoeae – The bacterium responsible for gonorrhea.
Trichomonas vaginalis – A parasite causing trichomoniasis, which may lead to irritation and discharge.
Candida spp. – A yeast that can cause genital infections and irritation.
Staphylococcus aureus – A bacterium linked to localized infections.
Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus, GBS) – Can cause urinary or genital tract infections in men.
Fasting requirements
Fasting is not required for the Sexual Health Profile III – Male. However, it is recommended to avoid urination for 1–2 hours before providing a urine sample for the Chlamydia trachomatis test.
