The STI I PCR Profile is an advanced molecular test that accurately detects multiple common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology. This highly sensitive method identifies the DNA of pathogens responsible for STIs, enabling early detection and effective treatment. The test includes screening for Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma genitalium, and Trichomonas vaginalis.
Who is this profile for?
This test is recommended for individuals who:
– Are sexually active and want to screen for multiple STIs in one test.
– Have symptoms such as genital discharge, itching, pain, or unusual sores.
– Have recently had unprotected sex or multiple partners.
– Require a routine STI screen as part of a health check or pre-pregnancy evaluation.
– Have been exposed to a partner diagnosed with an STI.
What can be detected
The STI I PCR Profile identifies four major infections with high accuracy:
– Chlamydia trachomatis: Detects Chlamydia trachomatis, a bacterial infection that can cause painful urination and discharge, or present without symptoms, potentially leading to complications if untreated.
– Neisseria gonorrhoeae: Identifies Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacterium causing gonorrhea, which can affect the genital tract, throat, or rectum.
– Mycoplasma genitalium: Detects Mycoplasma genitalium, an emerging STI linked to urethritis, pelvic pain, and infertility if untreated.
– Trichomonas vaginalis: Detects Trichomonas vaginalis, a parasitic infection causing irritation, discharge, and inflammation, or remaining asymptomatic in many individuals.
When to get tested
This test is suitable for individuals with symptoms of STIs, those in new relationships, or people with high-risk sexual exposure. It is also useful for confirming treatment success or performing regular health monitoring.
Fasting requirements
No fasting is required. For accurate results, avoid urination for at least 1–2 hours before providing a urine or swab sample, as advised by your healthcare provider.
